The FCC this week banned the purchase of all foreign-made routers unless less they are on an approved list. Well, kind of. The details are still unfolding, but you can expect the price of home networking equipment to increase over the next few weeks. Now is a good time to upgrade.
Why the urgency? There concerns and some evidence that many current consumer focused routers are being used by foreign actors for malicious activity.
Should you upgrade?
Is your router less than 3 years old?
Does it support Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 (any or all)?
Does it support WPA2, or better yet WPA3?
Is it still receiving firmware/software updates?
Are your wireless connections trouble free?
If 4 or 5 of your answers are yes, you probably don't need to do anything. Any fewer than 3 yes answers you should make upgrading a priority.
